Abstract

We compare seven ways of representing uncertainty: fuzzy, intuitionistic fuzzy and neutrosophic sets, Dempster–Shafer theory, subjective logic, Dezert–Smarandache theory and evidential deep learning. For each, we give its components, its links to the others and its number of free parameters in common notation. The central result is simple. A normalized neutrosophic triple is a subjective-logic opinion under another name, and its indeterminacy degree is fixed by the other two components rather than measured on its own. We also give practical recommendations for evaluating such representations in image processing and neural networks.
